Putnam & Co. 1856 First Edition Hard Cover Fair Ex-Library 112 pages (including index) + Explanations of the Plates + 8 black-and-white plates. Measures approximately 9 3/4" x 6". Pages are age toned. Plates show foxing, but text pages do not. The bookplate of the Watkinson Library, Trinity College (withdrawn) is on the front pastedown. This is the only sign of former library ownership. There is pencil writing on the verso of the front free endpaper. Text pages have a very few, minor smudges. Pages firmly attached. Mild to moderate foxing is visible on all of the plates. Plates appear slightly faded, but the exquisite drawings and lettering are quite legible. The backstrip is cracked and several pieces have become detached, resulting in the loss of a portion of the gilt title on the spine. (A larger amount of the spine has chipped than is shown in the photo.) The detached pieces of the title are included, should the purchaser desire to repair the book. The other small pieces which have chipped are, alas, lost. Both front and rear joints are cracking. Corners and edges are worn. Binding is a dark brown, with blindstamping. Price:
